West Village 2 Bedroom

Design-in-Progress

Design for Style and Function, Downtown

Here is a great apartment which belongs to a fun young professional who enjoys entertaining friends. She wanted a place that looks beautiful and has an edited style but still comfortable enough where guests feel comfortable to grab a glass of wine and enjoy themselves.

The Foyer, Living Room and Dining Area are open to each other, and have a great sense of flow. Guests can seat themselves on a large sectional sofa to watch a movie on the big flat-screen TV or enjoy the sunset views while having dinner at the dining table. The owner even has her electronic drum set in the apartment for when she wants to play with friends.

Her Master Bedroom is a true retreat with a giant King-Size bed, and upholstered TV-lift at the foot of the bed for the days she wants to laze around and watch some shows. An elegant chaise to the right of her bed allows more comfort and a sense of luxury. Many built-in closets and drawers provide ample storage for her wardrobe, and two entrances to the bathroom create the feeling of an en-suite, while allowing guests to enter through the foyer.

The Second Bedroom serves as an Office by day and a Guest Room by night. File storage and computer/printer stations all have their place and can be easily closed when not in use. Pocket doors allow for a sense of privacy for those friends staying over at night. The room also serves as a nice place to sit during the day to enjoy the West and North exposures from high above one of Manhattan's most exciting neighborhoods.

It's a fun and functional place to live for an active, busy young woman in the city!

Zen Modern Living/Dining Room

A Brooklyn Brownstone Design

Calming Modern Design with a Twist

This project was designed for a wonderful woman who owns a 150-year-old townhouse in Brooklyn. She wanted a very calm place to come back to every day, as well as a place she could comfortably entertain 4-6 friends on a regular basis for dinners and cocktail parties.

We chose a palette of several warm grey colors which play off each other to accent different parts of the room. Off-white and off-black colors were chosen to bring the eye in focus to diferent items, including a collection of beautiful and colorful artwork.

A comfortable sofa plays with a beautiful mid-century modern dining table, and the area is capped off with a wonderfully playful pendant fixture - one of the main focal points of the room.

The space is at once open, airy, warm and calm... and provides the homeowner with the peace of mind she loves each and every day.

The Duplex

Cabaret Theater and Outdoor Patio Design, West Village NYC

Design for a famous landmarked NYC Nightspot

Designing one of Downtown Manhattan's most popular summer spots was beyond FUN! The Duplex Outdoor Cafe is located on the busiest street corner in the West Village, and is one of the best people-watching spots in the City.

The first thing we did was to interview the staff members and see what would make it easier to do their job. We purchased huge adjustable umbrellas for the daytime, and used the same color to faux-paint a series of custom-built planter boxes - which not only delineate the space, but provide an opportunity for boxwood plants to give the feeling of nature.

LED market lights were added, which look great at night. Stainless steel tables are sleek and modern as well as extremely easy to clean, and comfortable aluminum and wood chairs to coordinate. The floor plan was laid out to maximize capacity. The response has been wonderful, and the cafe has become even more popular since the re-design.

The Cabaret Theater offers live entertainment every night. The manager wanted a space that looked great, was easy to maintain, and reflected the history of this club which has been a downtown staple for over six decades.

We chose new commercial grade carpeting that could handle an audience of 70 people coming and going two times per night. Dark-colored chairs, tables and tablecloths can handle their heavy use, and a dark faux finish wall was painted which gives great ambience when the lights are on, and "disappears" when performances are taking place to give focus to those on the stage. Tables and chairs were selected at different heights - shorter in front, taller in back, to give everyone in the audience a great view of the performance on stage.

Custom-painted images of the stars and celebrities who all got their start at the theater were commissioned, framed, and placed on the main wall. When the show is on, the house lights go down, and the theatrical lights go up on the stage. Walls and tables seem to disappear into the darkness, and the audience is sure to have a good time seeing their favorite performers!
